5. On This Day (November 2, 1762)

November 2 wasn't always about souls. 257 years ago, a British chap named Dawsonne Drake assumed office as governor of Manila. For two years the Brits were in our lands or rather the outskirts of Manila. After the Seven Years' War ended, the British returned the colony to the original conquistadors in 1764. 11 years later, the Yankees revolted with the major battles happening in Lexington and Bunker Hill.

Now, imagine if the British decided to keep Manila and they formed an alliance with Diego Silang from Vigan and Sultan Alimuddin of Sulu. Considering the fighting prowess of Filipinos, the British would have squashed the Yankees in Yorktown if they've recruited the combined forces from the north and south–a united all-Filipino army! Who knows? If dressed as a red coat, a Filipino soldier is a fighting machine comparable (more efficient than a sepoy) to hessian mercenaries.

If the British kept us, the outcome would have been far better than a few spoils of war: the American Civil War would not have materialised (more words spelled with an 's' instead of 'z'), no mañana habit, the Beatles would have not been mobbed in the 60s, steak and kidney pies instead of pandesal.

Democracy would not have been abused.
